Writing Can Be Murder

It’s the second half of 2008

do you know where your goals are?

I’m a big believer in checking in on your goals multiple times a year, and right around July 1st, is imho a good time.  I won’t bore you with my Home, Self, or Relationships goals, I’ll just bore you with my writing goals.

I’m behind. One of my writing goals had been to finish the draft of my WIP by now. I’m nowhere near completing that Herculean task.  One of the reasons I’m behind is that a publisher requested revisions on my last book, so for six weeks, the current WIP was abandoned. Even now, it still doesn’t have my full attention because I’m worrying about the submissions I’ve made for the last book.

Which brings me to a goal I did meet. I sent out the number of query letters I’d set out to. Yay me!

Right now I’ve got 5 partials and 3 fulls out to agents and the revised full out to the publisher. I’m waiting,  and waiting, and waiting.

What about you? Where are you in terms of your goals? What are your goals for the rest of the year?

  1. I find I work best with very short term goals. My goal for the summer is to finish the equivalent of three novellas. My goal for the fall is to start on another full length paranormal MS.

Of course in this business everything is subject to change, as you showed, when requests for revisions come down from the mountain.

  2. Congrats, Jen! My fingers are crossed for you.

With this project, it seems the goal terms can be set in years. My goal is to have this book written and at least partially, if not fully, rewritten by the new year. I don’t believe it will be fully rewritten by the new year, but reaching my goal of simply finishing the story would be outstanding. Perhaps mostly for my sanity….

  3. Jennifer — 3 novellas in two months? You’re amazing!

Cyndi — Have faith my friend, you’ll get there.
