Writing Can Be Murder

Do you hear what I hear?

I admit that I’m a compulsive eavesdropper, always listening to the conversations swirling around me, but today I’m wondering if anyone was paying attention to my conversaton.

I had lunch with a musician friend, a talented pianist and composer. At one point she asked me whether I thought one of her pieces would be an appropriate fit for a yoga studio.

“I don’t know,” I replied. “It’s got that orgasm in it.”

After she finished choking on her coffee she managed to ask, “What?”

“It’s got an orgasm. Two-thirds, maybe three-quarters of the way through.”

“No it doesn’t.”

“It does.” I then proceeded to sing the song (it has no words, so it was just a string of do-do-do-do-do-do’s strung together). She started singing it too and as we neared the “orgasm” part, I stopped singing and just inserted sharp intakes of breath where the music paused as it built to its big, crashing crescendo.

She agreed that it probably isn’t a fit for a yoga studio.

I wonder what the people sitting around us thought….

  1. They called the waitress and said, “I’ll have what she’s having…”

  3. (Hopefully WordPress notifies you of new comments or you’ll never see this…) Something entirely hilarious just happened. I was just laughing to myself about this post (How my mind even got there is beyond me), and a minute later, ‘Ain’t Goin’ Down (Till The Sun Comes Up)’ came up on my playlist. So I’m sitting there listening to it… and I realized that /it has an orgasm in it too/!!! I’ve heard this song at least twenty times before, but at around 3:16, the harmonica has an orgasm. Incredibly fitting, given the lyrics…

But yeah. Found that amusing, and thought of you, so I thought I’d tell you about it =P
