Am I the only one amused by this?

“…but you can pull it off.”

Someone said the following to me THREE times yesterday about my short hair. “I’d never be that brave…but you can pull it off.”

She might as well have said, “What the hell did you do to your hair???”

I considered running over Santa

ENOUGH with Christmas already. Christmas used to run from Thanksgiving thru Dec. 25th. That was nice. It made it special.

But now it goes from the beginning of October thru…? By the time Thanksgiving rolls around I’m already sick of Xmas decorations and carols.

So today, when I saw some poor fool dressed up as Santa standing on the side of the road, brandishing a “sale” sign for a local store, I momentarily considered just plowing into him, thus ending both his misery and my own.

Too harsh?

Best gift ever (at least this year)

Kate Perry has a list of stuff she doesn’t want for Christmas on her blog http://www.kateperry.com/blog this week. which made me want to blog about the great gift Long Suffering got for me.

I got home from my trip last week and what to my wondering eyes should appear (no, not a sleigh full of toys and 8 tiny reindeer) but a light-up musical keyboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having never had the opportunity to take music lessons (flutophone in second grade does not count) as a kid, I’m always wishing (aloud) that I could play an instrument. (Long Suffering on the other hand is an AWESOME violin player.)

Right now I’m trying to master Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
I’m a S-L-O-W learner. Yesterday I was finally able to play the first phrase with both hands.

It’s the best gift for a couple of reasons:

1) I’m loving it
2) It was super-thoughtful and totally unexpected
3) Have I mentioned I’m loving it?

What are the best gifts you’ve rec’d? (this year, and years past)

What agents are really thinking

There’s a great article on Poets & Writers with the thoughts of four agents.

My favorite part is when they’re complaining about editors not getting back to them. (Okay, that’s not very nice of me, but it did make me chuckle.) Seriously though, the article is worth a read.

Paranoid much?

So today Jill says to me, “I read your blog.”

And I, in my most paranoid manner replied, “How did you find it?”

“It’s in your email signature.”

(She was very kind not to laugh at me, but I deserved it.)

When firemen knock on your door

in the middle of a snowstorm, and ask if they can look around, these three thoughts come to mind.

1)Thank goodness I cleaned today. All the laundry is put away, and there are no dishes in the sink. Oh no! They’re gonna tramp soot all over my white carpet.

2) Crap! Why didn’t I email myself the work I did today? If this place burns down all those brilliant (hahaha) words will be lost forever. And that’s a bad thing?

3) Wallet. Check. Cell phone. Check. Dog. Check. Bird — uh oh, if I take the bird outside he’ll freeze, but if I leave him behind he’ll be fried.

What would you worry about if firemen knocked on your door?

Hate writing query letters?

For a short time Firebrand Literary is accepting First Chapters (I think it’s up to 20 pages, but check the rules) instead of query letters. Click on Query Holiday at http://www.firebrandliterary.com to find out more.

Is it me, or…

do other people get nervous when they watch an airline pilot wander back and forth down the concourse looking for his gate?

Obviously he found the gate (and his way thru the sky) because I made it home.
