Found a great job for a character

A Goose Ranger!

A Goose Ranger (according to the truck I read while stopped at a light) uses highly trained collies to chase Canadian geese away.

Awesome.

On so many levels.

  1. I would love that job. I wonder how much they pay? And what your allowance is for the removal of goose-poop from your shoes?

  2. I remain unconvinced. Have you ever interacted with a Canadian goose? Those suckers are mean.

There was a flock of Canadian geese who lived in our neighborhood and, for some unknown reason, one of them took a severe disliking to me. It would chase me whenever it saw me–even if I was in my car. I can still picture it, waddling down the middle of the street behind my Honda, flapping its wings and yelling at me.

I wonder what kind of hazard pay you’d get. I also wonder how many geese rangers are missing fingers.

  4. Kate — You’re right, they are SO mean. I HATE Canadian geese (one bit me when I was a little kid, so I’m actually afraid of them).

That’s why I figured having a dog that does nothing but chase them away would be awesome.

So for anyone keeping track: I’ve had a goose bite me (and for the record, not only do they bite, but they hiss and do this intimidating wing-spread thing — I was 3 so the goose was bigger than me) a camel spit in my face, and a neighbor’s dog bit me…all before I was five. When it comes to animals I had a traumatic early childhood, lol.
