Rearranging furniture and rewriting

I’ve spent a good amount of time in the past two weeks rearranging furniture. It’s interesting how you can keep the same exact pieces in a room, but once their position is changed, the room, while still familiar, has a whole new feel.

The same can be said of rewriting. You can keep the same characters, dialogue and scenes, but once you move them around, a story gains a fresh perspective.

That’s right isn’t it? Or did I bang my head on one too many times?

  1. It changes the energy too–of the room and the scene.

I had the urge to rearrange furniture too, but I’m in a rented room. I don’t want to freak my landlady out by pushing the huge wardrobe across the room. Then again, she might offer to help. 😉

(Notice how I didn’t touch “did I bang my head one too many times?” Marvelous restraint on my part, I think.)

  2. Your restraint is…admirable?
