Reading, Listening and Watching 4-7-10

READING: Beth Ciotta’s OUT OF EDEN — gotta love a book which opens with the heroine chastising her shoes.

LISTENING: to a loop of Dan Hill’s SOMETIMES WHEN WE TOUCH (how’s that for a golden oldie?)

WATCHING: Getting into the sly vibe of JUSTIFIED. Timothy Olyphant manages to rock that hat.

And what’s entertaining you?

  1. READING… Emma Wildes’s LESSONS FROM A SCARLET LADY as homework from an editor. To quote McDonalds, I’m lovin’ it.

LISTENING… to the chime of my dangly earrings.

WATCHING… my sister eat soup. She’s watching an episode of MIAMI INK, because she’s tattoo obsessed.

  2. READING: THE BRIEF WONDROUS LIFE OF OSCAR WAO by Junot Diaz. Not my usual kind of book but I’m really trying to stay out of my comfort zone.

LISTENING: To the sounds of my husband watching back-to-back installments of THE PACIFIC on HBO downstairs.

WATCHING: The construction workers outside my window building the house next door. Their constant hammering has given me a headache.

  3. Kate — At least you weren’t listening to your sister slurp soup. And I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a fast food slogan used as a review for a book, but it works.

Jenny — So you’re watching and listening to the construction workers? I don’t envy you.

  4. READING: A book I’m editing which mostly consists of sentence fragments.

LISTENING: To the birds – the upside of having all the windows open to combat the heat.

WATCHING: Just watched the final episode of LIFE on DVD last night. Good show. Of course it’s no more.

  5. Jennifer — Life was my favorite show of the decade. Unfortunately it really got slammed by the writer’s strike and then NBC bounced it all over the schedule. I have to wonder whether it would have survived today since more people have dvrs.
