Happy Birthday K!

Speaking of birthdays, I’m totally coveting Jennifer Colgan’s mushroom birthday cake. It looks amazing. You’ve got to check out the photos on her blog.

Oh, and speaking of the divine Ms. Colgan, Amazon kindly sent me an email letting me know her book The Matchmakers is now available.

But Tuesday’s are about food not books, so here goes:

We ate at a buffet at B.B. Kings this weekend. I thought the fried catfish and peach cobbler were yummy. The concensus at the table was that the grits were pretty darn good too (tho I didn’t try them).

I made chocolate buttercream frosting for the first time. Not difficult but it is a bit messy and time consuming with all that billowing confectioners sugar. I added more cocoa than the recipe called for since it was being served to a dark chocolate loving crowd.

I’m considering entering a recipe in a cooking contest. Has anyone ever done that?

What did you eat/cook/bake this week that was memorable?

  1. I baked salmon in foil packets – it was very easy and turned out surprisingly good. The recipe was on the salmon filet package to make a marinade of garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, black pepper, basil and parsely and seal up the filets in foil to bake. Zero cleanup besides. I did burn the baby carrots I was making as a side dish, though – didn’t put enough water in the pot and got side tracked by a phone call. Good thing I had frozen green beans to substitute in a pinch.

  2. Mmmmm… your salmon sounds good. I made a dijon and breadcrumb coated salmon this week which was also good.
