What’s cookin? 6/8/10

We took a cruise last week so I didn’t do any cooking, but we did do a whole lot of eating.

Indulged in lots of chilled soups (things I’d never make because of their cream content) — yum.

Had an AWESOME serving of leg of lamb (something I don’t cook myself because just the smell of it roasting is enough to turn Long Suffering’s stomach)

Loved a roasted vegetable dish with goat cheese (tho to be honest, I love anything with goat cheese).

And I discovered I don’t like oyster fritters. At all.

  1. I’m learning how to cook in a new kitchen – very surreal experience since I don’t remember where I put everything. I’m sticking to the simplest dishes I know until I get my bearings.

  2. I love love LOVE lamb. I already have plans to cook a leg of lamb when I return to the States.

    The best thing I ate in the past few days was potato chips (homemade in olive oil) with watermelon. I’m not sure what possessed me to pair them, but it was perfect–a little salty, a little sweet and refreshing. I also had this great tapas dinner with salchichon and manchego. The manchego in Spain transcends.

  4. Jennifer — ah, yet another wonder of a new home — the endless moments of “Where the hell did I put _________________?” Did you at least stay with the same kind of heat source — gas or electric?

    Kate — I can see how the watermelon and potato chips would work. I just saw a recipe for a watermelon and feta salad which seemed like the perfect pairing of sweet and salty…but your combo has the extra bonus of crunch.

    Craving manchego now….thanks for that.

    Jenny — imho the trick to eating on a cruise is to eat what you normally don’t. I can never understand why people gorge on pizza on a ship…you can do that at home.
