What’s cookin’ — Tuesday 6-22-10

Not the best of weeks in the kitchen.

I didn’t bake my bread long enough — gross! (This is the problem with baking whole wheat bread — it’s always brown and by the time the top browns you’ve burnt the rest.)

Yesterday I baked beets for the first time. Wrap them in foil. Stick ’em in the oven…what could be easier? EXCEPT….when you take them out of the oven bright red-purple juice drips everywhere (I’d been expecting them to be more potato-like) and the white dog laps up the juice…which means that not only do you have to clean the floor, but the dog too. ((sigh))

On the plus side I had an AWESOME cheeseburger this week (always so much better when someone else cooks!).

What did YOU have this week?

  1. I discovered I like strawberries better when they’re all mashed up. That’s it. (Yep, I got nothin’.)

  2. I was watching a show about strawberries the other night (yawn!) and it said that the strawberry “fruit” is really the seed, while the part we call “fruit” is just a swollen stem. Fascinating viewing….

If you like them mashed up, try them with a splash of balsamic vinegar — yum!
