Writing Can Be Murder

Thursday Confession — 6/24/10

Confession is good for the soul…or some such crap, so I’m going to make that the theme of my Thursday posts.

Confession: I forget what I’ve written.

I was reminded of this particular character flaw when I rec’d a letter from an editor about one of my manuscripts. I literally had to reread MY OWN MANUSCRIPT in order to fully understand her letter which was about MY book.

(In my defense I’ve started three other books since I finished that one — my poor brain can only retain so much information at a time.)

Okay your turn, what do you have to confess?

  1. I don’t even know where to start.

  2. I just laughed out loud. But it’s with you, not at you. You know you’ve been writing a lot when you can’t remember stuff from your earlier work. I say that’s a sign you’ve been working hard!

Okay, so it’s Confessions day. I confess that I’ve been lounging around in my backyard doing absolutely nothing of importance (not even pulling the ugly little weed that sprouted in the garden overnight, which would’ve taken two seconds), when I should have been writing. There. I told someone. How come I don’t feel any less guilty?

  3. Kate — Better not to start then…

Jenny — It’s okay to laugh AT me. I do sometimes.

If I tell you that you’re “composting” (that’s what a good friend calls it) your ideas and that you’ll end up yielding bigger, more beaufiful fruit from your labors, will you feel less guilty?
