Writing Can Be Murder

Reading, listening, watching, writing 7/28/10

Reading — Just finished a soon-to-be-published psychological thriller. Awesome. Will tell you all about it when the time comes.

Finished listening to Revenge of the Spellmans…not sure if this didn’t work for me as well as the first two because I listened to it, instead of reading it, or if it was the book itself. Loved the first two Lisa Lutz books, only liked this one.

Trying to get into a dark headspace to finish up revisions of a manuscript which means I’m back to the Torchwood: Children of Earth soundtrack. Can’t seem to get myself depressed enough….

My email obsessively

-Requested revisions for a dark thriller
-First chapter and synopsis of comedic crime novel I want to write next
-Non-fiction pieces for an upcoming project

What are you R,L, W, and/or W–ing?

  1. First, how fabulous-sounding is “comedic crime novel”? Quite fabulous, I would say.

Reading: BAD THINGS HAPPEN by Harry Dolan. Great writing, but maybe a slowish start. And ON WRITING by Stephen Kings, which needs no words.

Listening: To a new writing playlist. It’s a weird mix of rock, alternative, and opera. One minute The Clash is playing, then it’s Pavarotti.

Watching: SELLING NEW YORK. It’s a show I just discovered on HGTV. I cannot get over what $1 million buys you in NYC real estate! (The answer: not very damned much.)

Writing: Just started my WIP over again (4th time’s a charm?), but don’t want to jinx myself, so that’s all I’ll say for now.

  2. R – Along Came a Spider ( then I am going to read Kiss the Girls), this is very unusual reading for me, tried to figure the order of the series of Alex Cross . HOPE I do not get NIGHTMARES! Lots of people better hope this, because my insommnia is bad enough!(but I actually am enjoying Paterson)

W- My kids pick basil and tomato from garden to distribute amoungst my “friends” :)- The TOMATO hast runneth over the garden!!! Also enjoying watching them pick and eat them right from the vine. I think there was a “CREEPY MOVIE” years ago about a giant killer tomato, or some vegetable…LOL! Anyone remember or am I just nuts?
DEATH by tomato , I ‘ll take it.

W – old DVRed episodes of Psych, House and Modern Family while hitting the DREADMILL( which BTW) is going….slow but going.

L – Alot of mixes that include EVERYTHING on my IPOD for running.

  3. R – Twilight. Because my sister made me cave, and I figured it would be interesting to see what readers loved so much about it. More on that later.

L – Only the radio in the morning while taking care of baby.

W – Sometimes throw a HBO movie on in background when late afternoon sets in and baby and I have been alone all day and are playing but tired. Usually I put on something I’ve seen before so that I only have to pay attention with half an ear. Really, I just need the voice of others sometimes!

  4. Jenny — Wow, The Clash to Pavarotti — the idea makes my head spin. I hope 4th time IS the charm for you.

Running — I remember that movie I think it was Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! Can’t wait to hear what you think of Spider and Kiss the Girls!

Cyndi — I haven’t read the Twilight books. Saw the first two movies…the second movie may very well make it to my “most boring movie ever” Top 10 list.
