Writing Can Be Murder

Curiosity killed the writer…or at least tripped her up

I’m an idiot.

(yes, I do realize that’s probably not news to most people)

I let my curiosity get the best of me today and in doing so let slip a secret I’d been keeping for four years. (idiot, idiot, idiot)

Earlier this week a HUGE box from Amazon came for one of the women in my building. It was probably 2 feet by 2 feet. This particular neighbor happens to be partially disabled so whenever I see that there’s a package for her (and she usually gets a few each week) I make it a point to bring it upstairs and leave it outside her door for her even if it means making an extra trip back down to the lobby to get my own mail.

Anyway this giant box is there so I bend down to pick it up (reminding myself to use my legs not my back) and it ends up weighing…..ounces. Literally ounces, no way did it even weigh a pound.

All week long I wondered what could have been in the giant box and then today I happen to see the woman and we’re making small talk and like the WORLD’S BIGGEST IDIOT I ask her what was in the giant box that weighed nothing.

For the past four years she never knew who was carrying all her packages up and leaving them at her door. Now she does.

She was quite gracious about it, but I still felt badly.

All because I let my curiousity get the best of me. grrrrr

  1. Whoops. 🙂 But you’d think she’d just be appreciative.

The real question: are you going to continue dropping her packages off?

  2. Yes, she was appreciative. She’s a nice lady.

LOL, of course I’ll continue dropping them off…tho now all the adventure is gone….

  3. Wear a mask when you drop them off–it’ll bring the mystery back, most def.

  4. It’s sweet of you to bring her packages up. You’re curious because you’re a writer… comes with the job.

  5. Hey, at least you didn’t ask about the body bag in the garage. That would have been a real faux pas.

  6. Kate — oooh, I could get a whole ninja outfit and really make it fun!

Jenny — “sweet”? Not a word I’d ever use to describe myself, lol

Jennifer — You are SOOO right. I satisfy my curiousity about THAT by going over and poking it.
