Expecting to have a bad day?

I am not what I’d call a “lucky” person. There was a time, not that long ago, when I would have gone so far as to say I was “unlucky”. I’ve changed my thinking about that, not because a string of wonderful things happened to me, but because I decided that believing I was unlucky served no purpose.

A couple of months ago I read this article in Psychology Today: Make Your Own Luck

It claims that we can cultivate our own luck…or at least be more open to recognizing and acting on the opportunities in our lives. I actually believe the old adage “Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity.” (up to a point)

What about you? Do you consider yourself lucky? Do you believe we can make our own luck?

  1. I certainly would have said I was unlukcy too – I don’t gamble because I never win, I can defy the odds to lose at any game of chance, but I agree that ‘luck’ as in things going your way is more about attitude than anything. Thinking positively tends to produce positive results and thinking negatively tends to produce negative results so in that respect I definitely think we can make our own luck.

  2. I’m lucky. At least I really believe I am. But something about it doesn’t exactly sit right with me, though, because I hate the notion that things “just happened.”

  3. Jennifer — Games of chance are evil! But we can influence other things with our attitude.

Jenny — I have a strong dislike of “lucky” people. 😉
